True North

It’s sometimes difficult to describe Northern Michigan to people who live in other parts of The United States. There’s no awe inspiring fjords, but the landscape is covered by several feet of snow nearly half the year. There’s no 400 year old conifers left standing; but atleast 20miles of swamps and forest between each town remain. We are born into close-knit communities weathering the storms together. The only certainties are the power of nature and death. These are what surround and inspire the artists on our label. We invite listeners to join us in a world of snow and sorrow, united beneath the spire. |
Community Bonds

We first discussed founding a record label sometime around 2020, as a way to better encapsulate the efforts of our local artist community while gatherings were banned. To that extent, it was also important to capture the essence of what our artists were doing. Much like the bands we sign, Northern Spire Productions is funded privately on a marginal budget. The website is hand-coded from scratch, without the use of any website building software or expensive tools. Our policies are written to be simply honest, something we would be willing to accept on any website we visit. Mostly eschewing social media, we promote though word-of-mouth and at local gatherings. Our artists are self taught, self inspired. There’s no preachy counter-culture agenda, just celebration of artistic metal subculture. All these differences, we feel, make us distinctly Northern Michigan. |
Uncharted Territory

Once the label paperwork was filed in the summer of 2022, things progressed rapidly. We signed our initial lineup in a very short period. Many people already collaborating within the scene were excited and willing to join us. Happy to continue the excursion into the unknown, both the photographer and graphic designer our bands had collaborated with signed on. Then, by autumn, we launched the Northern Spire Productions website, webstore, and Bandcamp. Since then we’ve worked diligently to find new ways to produce and share our art; but every success we’ve had, we owe to our fans who support and share our music. |
